If you need more space but moving home isn’t feasible then a Loft Pod, or BUD as they are also known, might be what you are looking for. Whether you’re about to have a new addition to the family, need more space to work from home, a playroom for the children or a luxurious new bathroom – Loft Pods are a quick and cheap way to add extra space to your home.
What is a Loft Pod?
It’s not some sort of technological gadgetry or futuristic chamber it’s actually a very simple, slick and smart solution to unleash supplementary space in your home.
A Loft Pod or Bud (back, upper dimension) as it’s also known, is essentially an extra space of around 3m x 3-3.5m, built out over the back half of a house, above the first floor. The space can be linked to an existing loft conversion, hence the term Loft Pod, or it can be developed as a stand alone pod above an L-shaped first floor. You will have needed to convert your loft first before you can fully utilise a Loft Pod. Many clients choose to do both a loft conversion and the Loft pod in one go.
A Loft Pod is one of the least expensive ways to add space to your house. You can create a bedroom, home office, playroom, bathroom, library or yoga room – whatever you want.
Do you need planning permission for a Loft Pod?
If you have not gone over your permitted development guidelines you will not need planning permission unless you live in a conservation, heritage area or flat. If you have already gone over your permitted development then planning permission will be required.
We can provide you with free advice, help you through the planning process with our in-house architectural team and guarantee that all work meets building regulations.
